Vancouver Running Co. (VRC) is on the hunt for a full-time employee to join our team. The person who fills this position will play a key role in the evolution of Vancouver Running Co. and should possess a strong business sense, be approachable, be outgoing and be a positive ambassador for the sport of running.
This role will begin in a retail sales capacity and evolve into a long-term Retail Operations Manager role steering our in-store retail operations as Vancouver Running Co. grows and expands relationships with partners and brands.
THE IMMEDIATE ROLE
INSTORE SALES
- Create a welcoming, all-inclusive experience for customers
- Help customers with product decisions by listening to their needs, answering their questions and providing relevant recommendations
- Ensure customers always feel relaxed and never pressured
- Assist in merchandising the sales floor and work with brand partners on custom displays
- General day-to-day sales initiatives and tasks, i.e. shoe fitting, restocking, cleaning, special orders, etc.
- Assist with product buying and managing turns on each product
ONLINE ORDER FULFILLMENT
- Review online orders and manage any discrepancies
- Ensure orders are picked from inventory and packaged for shipping with all necessary documentation for shipping and customs
- Regular review of inventory levels and re-ordering needs to ensure successful fulfillment
FLIGHT CREW AND EVENTS
- Actively participate in Flight Crew runs, currently held on Thursday evenings and periodic Sunday mornings
- Participate in Vancouver Running Co. & Flight Crew events, typically held before or after shop hours
- Work with the Vancouver Running Co. team and brands to strategize and execute events
- Liaise with other run crews on collaborative events and initiatives
- Be an ambassador for VRC and running no matter where in the world you are training and racing
HOW THIS ROLE WILL EVOLVE
As Vancouver Running Co. grows you will be responsible for hiring and managing the retail team, including onboarding and training, through to product knowledge and scheduling. You will be a key person in helping shape marketing strategy and community initiatives, as VRC becomes an industry leader in the run specialty market.
MUST HAVES
- Must be a runner and be passionate about it
- Must understand run crew culture
- Must be community minded and willing to give back when they can
- Must get the obsession with shoes and know what the words neutral, stability, lugs, rock plate, lace lock, blacktoe, toe-splay and ground-feel mean
- Must understand the difference between road, trail and ultra, and the gear needs of all three
- Must understand the importance of a post-run beer…kidding…not really.
- Must be ok with the fact we carry no motion control shoes and very little stability shoes because we believe most people that are sold them, don't require them. Instead we carry a variety of neutral shoes and we work with health professionals to help our customers figure out any issues they are experiencing with their biomechanics
- Must be open and honest with customers
- An eye for style and trends in running clothing
- Must be flexible and patient with both customers and those that run with our crew.
- Friendly and approachable
- Be open to all types of running and all abilities of runners.
At Vancouver Running Co. our goal is to provide a unique and exceptional experience for our customers and our crew. We operate at a high-level of presentation and knowledge and we will require that of the person that fills this role. We never settle for the industry norm and we are always working hard to provide a run specialty experience that our customers and fellow runners have come to expect from us. If this sounds like your kind of place, we want to hear from you!
