Hollie Holden

Pug loving Hollie moved to Vancouver from London 3 years ago and hasn’t looked back. A serious trail convert, she claims VRC was her idea first—thankfully she settled for being one of our ambassadors instead.

How long have you been running for?
I ran my first 5k about 5 years ago on Clapham Common in London. I am not a natural runner, I hated it growing up, but in my twenties I started to get fat so downloaded the couch to 5k app and here I am, 5 years later, running Ultras for 'fun'

Where is your favourite place to run?
Anywhere with trees & a good view! I loved the ocean side trail at Deception Pass 50k & the lovely stretch of steep downhill beneath the Kicking Horse Gondola in the Golden Ultra 60k

Describe your best running memory?
Finishing my first marathon! It was very, very, very VERY wet but it was my best (and only successful) marathon by far! I feel like this race in particular cemented my running habit and was the goal race that led to the creation of some great friends & training partners.

What is your favourite post-run treat?
Yam fries, Coke Zero and chocolate, together or separately, I'm not fussy!

Why did you start running with Flight Crew?
Partly because shortly before VRC opened, I’d had a great idea to open a cool running store in the area as I felt there was a niche for a store selling 'cool' brands locally, so wanted to check out the competition. Partly because I just #lovetherun, and partly because I have made all my best Vancity buddies through running so wanted to add to my collection.

Your favourite Flight Crew memory?
Any time I have brought people along for their first time and watched them become one of the family! (too cheesy?! I have lived in Canada too long!)

What’s the running achievement you’re most proud of?
Placing 6th lady overall at the Golden Ultra 3-day stage race in September 2016.

What’s your favourite item of running clothing/accessory?
I could not live without my running watch, if it didn't record, it may as well have not happened. I also love my new Nike Zoom Elites - nice to finally have a pair of shoes that look cool as well as performing. And how could I forget - Instagram stories!! Again, if it's not recorded, it may as well have not happened.

If you could run with anyone in the world who would it be and why?
Snoop Dogg, because he is the absolute shizzle (yes, I am aware he is not a runner but I'm not very with it when it comes to inspirational runners/athletes). Snoop Dogg seems to be my default answer to everything.

Favourite running distance?
50k, anything shorter hurts too much
