Subject 1/5: Anatomy of a Shoe
All running footwear has the same basic anatomy; upper, midsole, outsole, heel and toe box. Each of these areas contribute to the overall fit and ride of a shoe and can differ greatly between brands and models. Preference for different fit characteristics and materials in these areas is personal and typically driven by application of the shoe (road, trail, racing etc.), individual requirements, and running goals.
