We’re extremely pleased to announce Kat Drew has joined the Vancouver Running Co. family as our second signing to the VRC Elite Ambassador program. Kat has supported Vancouver Running Co. and many Flight Crew events as part of Fraser Street Run Club for several years now, and we’re excited we can help to support her as she sets the trail running scene on fire.
From humble beginnings as a dedicated dancer through high school, Kat took up running as a full time hobby when she moved to Vancouver 10 years ago. She joined a half marathon clinic, which inevitably lead to marathons, through which she met fellow FSRC founders Michelle Ford, Jesse Booi and Cody Callon, all of whom wanted to go longer still, so they set out to train on the trails together.
As the distances grew longer, Kat’s performances kept getting better and better; she soon knew running was more than just a hobby. Three years ago she started coaching with ‘Run Happy’ co-author David Roche, and the improvements kept coming - her win at Chuckanut 50k last year was over an hour faster than her first time in the same race six years previously.
Kat has represented Canada on the trail running world stage twice now, but last year saw a personal career highlight - winning a Golden Ticket to the Western States Endurance Run, where she then placed in the top 10, earning her another spot at the iconic race for 2020.
Outside of her podium trail race finishes, Kat is also a sub-3 marathoner, has a busy day job in events, and trains a lot early in the morning on roads. Like many of us, she enjoys lying on the sofa eating Miss Vickies chips post-run, reading books, and enjoying the great Vancouver outdoors.
Not taking running too seriously is Kat’s main philosophy, and that comes across in her calm and friendly demeanor both on and off the trails. Catch her on the North Shore trails (Greenland and Bottletop are her favourites) and she’ll likely stop for a chat.
We couldn’t be happier to welcome Kat to the VRC family, and we’re excited to help support her in pursuit of her 2020 trail running goals.
