All road runs will meet at Seaforth Park instead of Vancouver Running Co. There will be no bag check for the time-being so please arrive with only what you need.
Join Flight Crew Run Club for fun, free and social group runs on roads and trails; everyone is welcome, and we operate a strict no-drop policy, so whatever your pace, you’ll find someone to run with. Our group of ambassadors help lead the way and are always on hand to answer any questions.
Make sure you sign our updated waiver form for 2021 and beyond - this participation waiver must be signed before you run with us. Once complete you do not need to sign again, just show up and run!
Road 3/5 km
1886 W 1st Ave.
We have several volunteer Trail Run Leaders who will position themselves at the front and back of each group (and sometimes in the middle too). They are all experienced trail runners with extensive knowledge of our local trail systems, and between them, have run countless trail races of distances up to 100km.
The aim is for both groups to finish their run in under 2 hours. We start the run at 8am sharp, so arrive a few minutes early so you have a chance to get yourself ready, sign the waiver, sign in, use the washrooms, etc.
In order to participate in our trail runs, you will need to wear trail shoes, and carry enough food and water for at least 2hrs on your feet. We also recommend you carry the 10 essentials with you at all times, just in case the worst happens. At the very least, we’d suggest bringing an extra layer, a waterproof jacket and a headlamp.
Occasionally we will have trail runs where road shoes are enough for the terrain we are tackling. These will be clearly marked as beginner runs with no trail shoes required. In all other instances, trail shoes are mandatory.
The intention is for both groups, (short vs. long route) to finish at the same time. Take a look at the routes planned for that week, and ask yourself if you’re comfortable completing the distance, elevation and terrain in under 2 hours. This will give you a good indication of which group to choose. If you’re unsure, speak to one of the Run Leaders before the run starts and they may be able to provide some additional feedback, especially if you’ve run with them before. A good general rule is to err on the side of caution and choose the shorter route, which will help your decision going forward.
Yes, but choose your first routes carefully. We’d suggest that you’re comfortable running at least 10km on the road before coming out to our trail runs, then select a week with a route marked as ‘beginner’ to start with, and note what equipment might be mandatory for that run too. Run with the short route group to start with while you get used to the change in terrain and pace.
Some of the starting points may be accessible by public transit, however you can also utilise the VRC Flight Crew Facebook page to post if you are looking for a ride (or if you have space in your car). Be sure to include as much detail as possible about where you are willing to drive to/be picked up from.
Absolutely. The goal is to finish the run in under 2 hours. Your faster friend may choose to run the shorter route with you, or, if you feel you can finish the longer route in under 2 hours, run the longer route. If you’re unsure, we suggest you err on the side of caution and choose the shorter route. Alternatively, you and your friend can choose different routes and use it as an opportunity to meet some new people.
Our ultimate goal is for you to have a fun and safe experience as we explore some of our favourite local trails. These are “crew runs” not “guided tours.” You’re responsible for your own safety and being able to survive outside, including the “three T’s:”
Trip Planning: we’ll plan the route and take reasonable steps to keep the group together, but you’re responsible for having some knowledge of the route/area and appropriate navigation aids such that you can extract yourself safely should you become separated.
Training: it’s up to you to make sure you’re physically able to complete the route within the allocated time. If you’re unsure, feel free to contact us before the run.
Taking the Essentials: like proper footwear, enough food and water, extra clothing and other safety items such as a first aid kit and headlamp. Most times, the group will go grab a coffee after so bring a change of clothes and come join us!
Our Run Leaders are a mix of owners and volunteers that all love to run and ultimately want to ensure your run with us is safe, all-inclusive and fun. Our crew experience involves short and long distance road racing, ultra-marathons and leading track workouts for all abilities. Whether you’re a sub-40min 10Ker, just laced up your first pair of proper running shoes, or a 50 mile ultra marathoner, you found your home - everyone is equal in our space.
