Running is 10% physical and 90% mental. As runners we’ve heard this many times, so why don’t we train our minds to be as conditioned as our bodies? Join Vancouver Running Co. owner Rob Smith and Mindfulness Coach Cayley Benjamin in an 8 week training workshop aimed at finding deeper enjoyment in your running and the process of training. This is an exclusive training experience unlike anything available where you will push the boundaries of your mind and leverage the power it ultimately holds over your choices.
The Connected Run is not about going harder and faster, nor is it a training for a particular race, it’s about the deeper experience of running and the healthy and positive habits we can form to help enjoy the outcome of any run, no matter the result. The Connected Run will demystify mindfulness - what it is and why everyone is talking about it - and give you the mindful tools to redefine what success looks like and what it means to be a successful runner.
Each session will be a blend of education and running so participants should be prepared for both. As a founding member of The Connected Run you will experience a small group size with personalized attention that will give you the opportunity to expand your running and training to a more mindful state. There is no level of experience in running or mindful practice required to join The Connected Run, only a willingness to learn.
The Connected Run will take place every Wednesdays 6:30am - 7:30am from January 9, 2019 - February 27, 2019
8 Sessions $240.00 plus tax
During each session you will receive:
- An exploration of one of four key areas: motivation, connection, resilience and celebration
- A mindfulness tool that you can put into practice in your running and your day to day life
- Personalized attention, experience and coaching from Rob and Cayley
- Community and connection through an intimate and personal group size

Rob most recently created the 14 week training plan for the lululemon SeaWheeze Half Marathon alongside a series of mindful podcasts as guidance for participants throughout their journey. Having found great joy in his own running through a conscious effort to go deeper into the experience, he is now in a place to begin training others to experience that same joy and apply it not only to their running and racing but also their daily lives.

Q. Can I attend just one week or do I need to sign-up for the entire 8 week workshop

Q. Should I show up to each session in my run gear?
A. Yes, each session will have a run component to it
Q. Do I need to run a certain speed?
A. No, you do not have to be able to run at a certain pace but you should be able to run 5K without stopping
Q. What is mindfulness and how does it apply to running?
A. Simply put, mindfulness is experiencing the present moment non judgmentally. By practicing mindfulness and applying it to your running, you will develop a greater sense of awareness of your body, breath and surrounds which can in turn help you to achieve deeper satisfaction in your running and greater long term physical and mental well-being. Adding to that, it’s scientifically proven to improve focus, increase emotion regulation and decrease emotional reactivity, increase self acceptance and contributes to stress reduction (to name a few!).
