We’ve never been so thankful to have chosen running as a hobby, and while Flight Crew runs are paused for a while, we encourage you to get out for some solo runs as much as you can over the coming weeks. So, we’re sharing some of our favourite routes that are a little off the beaten path, so you can nail that social distancing, and enjoy a stress-free run. Don’t forget to document your runs on Instagram stories, tag @vanrunco and use the hashtag #flightcrewsupportsyou so we can share them!
Gastown Classic (AKA Rob’s favourite) - 10-12k
You might’ve come across this route at Flight Crew before, likely with Rob leading the charge. It’s a good mix of a bit of seawall, some urban streets, and the lesser run stretch underneath the Convention Centre - always a treat for GPS watches and a place to enjoy some great smells.
Stanley Park Trails - 5-10k
The Seawall gets all the attention, but detouring into the trails is a sure fire way to get some social distance, and explore somewhere different. Head up Rawlings to Prospect Point if you want to add some vert to your run, and cut across to Beaver Lake on the way back down. You can even throw in some 1km repeats around the lake if you’re feeling like adding a bit of spice to your run.
Seymour Demonstration Forest Cruising - Any distance
When you can’t decide between road or trail, choose the Seymour Demo Forest for a road run in trail surroundings. It’s easy to spread out if there are others around, there are hills aplenty to keep things interesting, and that forest air is about the best thing you do for yourself right now.
Flight Crew Favourite - 5k
We might not be running as a group at the moment, but you can still get out and run some of our favourite routes. This loop takes you down Lamey’s Mill Road, the seawall’s lesser trodden cousin, then a cruise along the seawall to the Maritime Museum. A perfect 5k loop, and easy to do by yourself at any time of day.
Take it to the trails - 12k
A Flight Crew Trail favourite, this route is the perfect mix of flowy cruising, technical downhill, and a decent climb to really work the legs. There aren’t too many turns to remember, and you’ll get to spend some time on Clare’s favourite trail, Baden Powell (this might not be true).
