Our friends at Physio Room have just introduced an amazing and highly recommended physio program to help you prepare for your first big Spring race. The idea behind the program is to ensure you are working on preventative measures during training, rather than deal with injuries that could have been avoided.
Here is the program outline from http://vancouverphysioroom.ca/own-the-run/
As 2016 begins, we all start to think about our plans for the New Year. One of the most popular resolutions in Vancouver happens to be one of the most fulfilling ones as well. The BMO Vancouver Marathon is one of the top races in the world! With the entire city cheering you on, and a well-planned training program, in theory you should be able to reach your goal. But how do you make sure that everything you set out to accomplish actually comes into fruition? How do you ensure success? As a runner myself, having completed 2 full marathons and 5 half marathons, I understand the emotional roller coaster that comes along with signing up for a race. The excitement of picking out your shoes, the anticipation of beginning your training program, the joy of running with a goal in mind, the motivation to run in any conditions (especially in Vancouver), the determination to set a new personal record, and of course the hope of finishing the race strong and achieving your goals. All of this equates to a very positive experience for you as a runner. That’s awesome!BUT, almost always, the same thing happens. When the training starts to get more intense and the volume starts to push you well past your comfort zone, the ‘drive for success’ starts to take over and you push harder than you’ve ever pushed before (very often through pain and injury). Because of that, you start to feel all the negative emotions that come with it: doubt, pressure, uncertainty, and of course disappointment. As a Physiotherapist that treats a lot of runners, I can tell you that almost always, I see you for the first time when all the negative emotions are already in place. It typically occurs later in the training regimen, when injuries tend to happen and all of the questions start to consume you: ‘How did I get injured? Why did it happen now? Should I change my shoes? Can I still train? Can I still race? What should I do???’As a runner, this SUCKS! As a Physio, this SUCKS!Physio Room is very excited to help stop the madness!! Starting in mid-January, we are offering an exclusive ‘OWN THE RUN’ package to prepare all runners for their races in 2016. We want all runners to not only reach their goals, but crush them! Running is such an amazing culture in Vancouver and we want to ensure that everyone who runs has a positive experience, whether your goal is just to complete a race or to qualify for Boston! Our group at Physio Room has come up with a ‘Running Specific Screen’ that will measure all of your baselines and educate you on becoming a much more efficient runner. The idea is to help you become the best version of yourself! With help from some of our partners in the community, we will make sure that you have everything you need to run the best race of your life and more importantly: OWN THE RUN!by Nick Lo, PhysiotherapistThe package includes:• An exclusive technical running shirt (specifically designed for this project)• GRID Trigger Point Foam Roller• GRID STK Rolling Stick• Release ball• Mobility/Floss compression band• Closed Loop resistance band• FREE Education sessions at Physio Room (Shoe Selection, Nutrition, Training tips, etc.)• Access to a Physiotherapist at Physio Room for Q&A• 4 Physiotherapy Sessions at Physio Room including:_Running Specific Assessment/Screen_Exercise Program Set-up (including Videos/Photos)_Mid Training Follow-up Session (to progress program)_Pre-Race Prep Session (including taping)This entire package will be $379 (valued at over $650) and guess what?
